Camilla becomes a septuagenarian on Monday and celebrated with two parties over the last week.

She has a particular interest in literacy, animal welfare, osteoporosis but more striking is her work with rape crisis and domestic violence charities and the support she has given to campaigns against human trafficking and female genital mutilation.

The portrait, showing the heir to the British throne and his wife in the morning room of their London home, Clarence House, was taken by photographer Mario Testino, known for his glamorous portraits of the rich and famous.

Milestone: Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall photographed at their official London residence, Clarence House, earlier this year.

Both dressed in blue, Camilla wore a dress coat with white embroidery, Charles, 68, matched with a suit, shirt and tie.

Family portrait: Testino was also invited to take this photograph for Princess Charlotte's Christening.

The private party on Saturday at Highgrove for 250 friends and family, thrown for Camilla by husband Charles, the Prince of Wales, was attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as well as Prince Harry, The Telegraph reported. Although these were not shot as official birthday portraits Their Royal Highnesses liked them very much and felt it would be nice to share one of them to mark the day'.

Camilla's public image has no doubt improved in recent years, and it's clear to see that she makes Charles very happy.
