Aston Villa have confirmed John Terry will be the club's new captain ahead of next season - and supporters on Twitter gave a mixed reaction to the news.

"Leader. VILLAN", playing on Chelsea fans' description of Terry as "Captain, Leader, Legend".

During the second half of last season, manager Steve Bruce used Elphick only sparingly and with John Terry arriving to Villa Park this summer, the 29-year-old's participation on the pitch looks set to be further reduced during the upcoming campaign.

And there ploy seems to be working as according to French sports daily L'Equipe, Real Betis have been in touch with Villa in order to discuss the possibility of signing Veretout. His side lost 2-1 to Shrewsbury.

Lonzo Ball dazzles again, but leaves win with calf tightness
But some insiders in the shoe industry thought it was unusual that Lonzo was wearing other brands so soon. Maybe wearing the Kobe's helped alleviate the groin issue he had earlier in the week.

Terry spent 22 years at Chelsea and captained them from the 2004-05 season, winning five Premier League titles as well as the Champions League and Europa League.

Jordan Veretout made it clear throughout his loan period with Saint-Etienne that he had no intention of returning to Aston Villa and playing in the Championship.

The game was Villa's third in pre-season, following wins against non-league clubs AFC Telford United and Kidderminster Harriers.
