Some experts say that the trajectory of Tuesday's launch could put Alaska and possibly the Pacific Northwest within North Korea's strike range, as Pyongyang claims that the newly developed missile can carry a large nuclear warhead and is capable of striking the United States mainland.

The interceptor will be fired from Alaska and will take place "in the coming days", the agency reported. Briefing reporters on Wednesday, Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis said: "We do have confidence in our ability to defend against the limited threat, the nascent threat that is there".

The UN Security Council reportedly failed to adopt a press statement condemning North Korea's recent missile provocation due to opposition from Russian Federation.

The Pilsung Range is located in the center of South Korea and is jointly operated by the US and South Korean air forces, CNN reported.

Leader Kim Jong-un, who personally supervised the ICBM test Tuesday morning, was quoted by the regime's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) Wednesday as saying that the "protracted showdown with the US imperialists has reached its final phase" and that the time has arrived for the North to "demonstrate its mettle to the U.S".

United States defense officials told media that the test will be the first of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense to defend against a simulated attack by an intermediate-range ballistic missile.

North Korea has hailed the ICBM test as marking the completion of is strategic weapons capability that it says includes atomic and hydrogen bombs.

North Korea on Tuesday test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time, an apparent game-changer in its confrontation with Washington over its nuclear and missile programmes. "The nuclear and ballistic missile programs of that regime require a determined response". However, the THAAD testing has just gone viral after North Korea tested their nuclear-capable missile Hwasong-14 on July 4 increasing tensions within the US.

It also shows the other versions inevitably getting smaller in numbers, but for most that's good news. Adoption of Android Nougat has been slow, to say the least.

"North Korea's actions are a threat to our allies, partners, and homeland", said Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy, the Pacific Air Forces commander.

"Our self-restraint holds, and diplomatic efforts remain underway as we speak, " he said.

Defense Secretary James Mattis claims North Korea's provocations are not bringing the US closer to war, but the military remains ready just in case.

He decided after the ICBM launch to alter the speech to urge world powers to "act in a unified way against North Korean nuclear and missile provocations", said Blue House officials.

"I have some pretty severe things that we are thinking about".

He was joined by military officials who contributed to the success of the ICBM test, the news agency said.

Johnson added: "The test is designated as Flight Test THAAD (FTT)-18".
