QATAR, GULF CRISIS: US calls for talks to end diplomatic row

The closure of Turkey's military base in Qatar was one of the key 13 demands laid out by Saudi and its allies, who have accused the country of aiding terrorism.

Turkey yesterday denounced the demands put by Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies blockading Qatar as "disrespectful" and an attack on a sovereign state's rights.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain cut ties with Qatar on June 5, accusing it of support for Islamist militants, an allegation Qatar denies.

Designations: Qatar hands all those terrorist designated and those requested by four countries (who wrote demands) and terrorist elements on U.S. and global lists, freeze their assets, and don't harbor more elements in future, offer Intel on members especially related to movement, finances. "This list of demands confirms what Qatar has said from the beginning - the illegal blockade has nothing to do with combating terrorism, it is about limiting Qatar's sovereignty", Qatari spokesperson Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed Al Thani said in a statement Friday.

Turkey's president said his country "admires and embraces" Qatar's attitude, while slamming the demands by arguing they contradict global law. Yet, the extent and scale of the demands appear created to induce a rejection by Qatar, and a possible justification for a continuation, if not escalation, of the crisis.

"Qatar has begun its careful review and consideration of a series of requests presented by Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and UAE", he said.

The ultimatum demands that Qatar, among other things, cut its ties with Iran and close a Turkish military base on its soil.

Moon sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated today
Ministers T Harish Rao, Indrakaran Reddy, Jogu Ramanna and Jagdeesh Reddy also conveyed their greetings to Muslims. Vice President Hamid Ansari wished people and stressed that festival's significance for strengthening brotherhood.

Several other states in the region have reduced diplomatic relations with the country.

An influential Republican senator said Monday that he'll withhold approval of USA weapons sales to several Middle Eastern allies until there is a clear path for settling a diplomatic crisis with Qatar.

He continued: "The Islamic world requires unity and integrity and the two countries can undoubtedly work together in this regard".

He urged the sides to continue negotiations by saying that it would be a "productive step", adding that the United States believes its allies are "stronger when they are working together".

"Each country involved has something to contribute to that effort". Tillerson also reiterated that the common goal of the U.S., the Gulf States and Qatar is "stopping terrorism and countering extremism" and added that "each country involved has something to contribute to that effort".

Compensation: Give compensations to victims and losses on 4 countries because of Qatar policy in last few years.

The top USA diplomat also said Washington was backing mediation efforts by Kuwait aimed at defusing the crisis and urged the different sides to "sit together" and continue discussing.
