On June 28, 1970, more than 2,000 people marched in the Christopher Street Liberation Day March, marking the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and, subsequently, the first LGBT Pride March in USA history.

Some road crossings around Greenwich Village, the flagship neighbourhood of the LGBT community, were painted in colors so that the march participants would cross the rainbow if they wanted to approach the Stonewall Inn, a bar where the story of the LGBT March in NY began.
