"Mark Buehrle - 77 miles per hour in his prime".

In addition to having his number retired Saturday, Buerhle will throw out the first pitch, and his 9-year-old son, Braden, will sing the National Anthem. The left-handed starting pitcher was drafted in the 38th round in the 1998 MLB Draft by the Sox and went on to pitch 16 MLB seasons, 12 on the South Side of Chicago.

Buehrle was 161-119 with a 3.83 ERA in 12 seasons in Chicago, pitching a no-hitter against Texas in 2007 and a flawless game against Tampa Bay in 2009.

"I was just surprised and shocked, and emotions hit me", Buehrle said.

"People texted me before we got here saying how crowded it was". Please, dude, don't be dumb.

After working seven innings in Game 2 of the Series two days earlier, Buehrle never expected to pitchin Game 3. He spent the first 12 years of his 16-year career with the White Sox, going 161-119 with a 3.83 ERA (120 ERA+).

The most important of them is not conceding penalties, which he says gives lifeblood to the men in red. Gatland's argument was that "the frustrating thing for us is the amount of blocking that's going on.

But the ex-Blue Jays starting pitcher does admit to downing a few beers before pitching in a game. I would've bet my house that I wasn't going to pitch a day and a half later. "I talked guys' ears off".

But just to be safe, before cracking a new beer, he'd ask the coaches if he was going to be needed in the game. "I had started the previous game of the series and threw 100 pitches in that one". "You just go out there and play the game and the numbers take care of themselves".

"No, Mark. You are not pitching today".

In an article he wrote for The Player Tribune Buehrle said he chugged, "like three beers".

Definitely no more than three, though. Coop joked, "not unless it goes to 13 innings". At that point, I started to bear down and prepare. Jackie Robinson's No. 42 was retired throughout baseball in 1997.

Buehrle is the 11th White Sox player in team history to have his number retired joining Nellie Fox (#2), Harold Baines (#3), Luke Appling (#4), Minnie Minoso (#9), Luis Aparicio (#11), Paul Konerko (#14), Ted Lyons (#16), Billy Pierce (#19), Thomas (#35) and Carlton Fisk (#72).
