CAMDEN, N.J. - While the notion of becoming the top overall pick had yet to sink in the morning after the National Basketball Association draft, Markelle Fultz didn't need much time to let Philadelphia know that he thinks the Sixers are now a playoff team. So as he looked to be leaving the Barclays Center and the 2017 NBA Draft, the crowd booed him relentlessly.
I was originally going to write this column about the ins and outs of the Sixers' trade with the Celtics that enabled Philly to select combo guard Markelle Fultz first overall, a scorer and ball-handler the team believes is the ideal fit to play alongside Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
Tatum, who just completed his freshman year, averaged 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds in 29 games for the Blue Devils. Fultz shot 47.6 percent from the field, made 41.3 percent of his 3-point attempts, reached double figures 24 times and set a school record for points by a freshman with 579.
The Philadelphia 76ers continue to be among the league's worst teams, finishing 27th overall last season with a 28-54 record.
While that was being completed, the draft got off to a familiar start with the same top-four picks as past year: Philadelphia, the Lakers, Boston and Phoenix. The deal was first reported on Saturday and when it was apparent the trade was going to occur, Fultz quickly worked out for the 76ers. where he proclaimed the new nickname was FEDS: Fultz, Embiid, Dario, Simmons.
Russell, the second overall choice by the Lakers in the 2015 draft, averaged 15.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.4 steals last season.
Arizona great Luke Walton and his Los Angeles Lakers coaching staff that has an obvious Wildcats flavor must turn their attention to dealing with the circus that comes with Lonzo Ball's father LaVar Ball.
The Lakers selected Ball with the second overall pick, staking a big portion of their future on the talented UCLA playmaker. Ojeleye is known for his offense.
White House reacts to Depp 'assassin' comments
On January 21, Madonna sensationally admitted to harboring thoughts about " blowing up the White House ". Depp asked a crowd in England on Thursday when was the last time an actor assassinated a president .
With the Celtics winning the Eastern Conference last season, adding a player like Jackson will make things interesting for them. He is the first Seminole taken in the top ten of the Draft since 1989.
"[Heron is a] big, strong, confident guard who plays with the certainty of an National Basketball Association vet", Forgrave wrote.
CONCERNS: It is unclear how well his offensive game and unorthodox shot will translate to the National Basketball Association, though he shot 55 percent overall and 41 percent from 3-point range with the Bruins.
Fultz is expected to be the No. 1 pick after a single season at Washington, where he put up big numbers but didn't win many games.
Los Angeles then traded the 28th overall pick to Utah for the 30th and 42nd picks, landing Villanova forward Josh Hart and IN center Thomas Bryant.
Sacramento was the only team with two lottery picks. Another sophomore followed Kennard when Donovan Mitchell was selected out of Louisville by Denver at No. 13, but was then dealt to Utah in a trade that sent Trey Lyles to Denver. The Trail Blazers traded him and the 20th pick to the Sacramento Kings for the rights to Collins. Martin's team went 8-14. Of course, the counter argument to that view is that Fultz didn't have the talent around him during his days at Washington.
Milwaukee picked Michigan's D.J. Wilson at No. 17, IN selected UCLA forward T.J. Leaf with the 18th pick, Atlanta used the 19th pick on Wake Forest forward John Collins and Portland chose Duke's Harry Giles at No. 20, who was then traded to Sacramento. It's ironic that the Wade left the Miami Heat, who will nearly certainly be better than the Bulls now next season, but if he ends up on another playoff team with those $24 million then he's a victor in multiple ways. Fultz (25 points) actually outscored Ball (22 points), but the Bruins blew the Huskies out by about 30 points.
