In a statement, Jamie Gorelick said she told Kushner to get "independent advice of a lawyer" on whether to "continue with us" after Robert Mueller was tapped to lead an FBI investigation into possible ties between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation. Sekulow also spoke to Jake Tapper on CNN's "State of the Union" and Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday". But Trump has also said he had made a decision to fire Comey before Rosenstein wrote a memo recommended him.
"You don't mess with the criminal justice system in this way ... the President is on very tenuous ground here", Ben-Veniste told CNN's Don Lemon Friday. If there is an investigation of the circumstances of Comey's firing, and the Deputy Attorney General (who is serving as Acting AG for the investigation due to Jeff Sessions' recusal) was instrumental in the firing, that sure looks like a conflict, Turley says.
"The president has not been notified by anyone that he's under investigation", Jay Sekulow, legal counsel for the president, told CBS's "Face The Nation" over the weekend.
Kushner's current attorney said that discussions he had with other lawyers were to seek advice, not to replace his team.
He also commended Trump's use of social media -that he could barely defend -as being effective. He said the President used tweets to speak with the public directly.
Trump's tweets Monday focused primarily on his support for the Republican candidate, Karen Handel, in Tuesday's high-stakes special congressional runoff in Georgia's 6th House District.
Brussels attacker sympathized with IS
Authorities said the attack in a crowded Brussels station could have been far worse if the explosives had fully detonated. Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon suggested to state media that a second, larger device at the scene did not go off.
That person is Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice, a 27-year-old nonprofit aimed at protecting religious and constitutional rights. But two avenues appear clear so far: The lawyers are prepared to paint Mueller's investigative team as somehow politically motivated, or too aligned with the interests of fired FBI Director James Comey; and they will argue the president didn't illegally exert pressure on the investigation. "Something about the way I was conducting it, the president felt, created pressure on him that he wanted to relieve", Comey told the Senate Select Intelligence Committee.
However, one notable moment came when Sekulow appeared to reverse course on "Fox News Sunday" by acknowledging to Wallace that Trump is under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey last month.
During his Sunday talk show appearances, Sekulow previewed Trump's defense against obstruction claims.
A host of committees are seeking Comey's written memos of his private conversations with Trump, but none have yet to obtain them.
Even so, White House Spokesman Sean Spicer said in a June 6 news conference that Trump's tweets should be considered "official statements". Richard Burr, R-N.C., the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, the former director dodged.
The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking.
