It's thought that Ant entered rehab last night after breaking down to his wife Lisa and Declan Donnelly, his colleague and close friend.
He is said to have started taking prescription drugs to cope with the pain relating to an ongoing complication.
Speaking to the Sun on Sunday, the presenter, 41, said: "The first step is to admit to yourself you need help".
TV star Anthony McPartlin has thanked fans for their support after he recently announced that he is under going rehabilitation treatment for the use of prescription drugs and alcohol.
'I think it's great that he's spoken out and it sets a great example for other people who we know will be out there and worrying about it, whether for themselves or on the behalf of someone else, ' said Deidre.
He and Lisa, who has told fans that she is "completely overwhelmed" are reportedly determined to do everything they can to help Ant.
The feeling amongst senior executives is that Ant has been very courageous to admit this.
Following the shock news, Ant's presenting buddy Dec sent a message from their official Twitter account saying, "Thank you for all the kind messages and well wishes for the big fella".

Reiterating their message of support, an ITV spokesperson added: "We're sending Ant all of our best wishes for a speedy recovery". "All the best Ant it, will all be sorted for sure @antanddec".
They have since presented I'm a Celeb, Britain's Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway and have won a huge 31 National Television Awards. "Your support is, as ever, much appreciated", he wrote on social media.
McPartlin and Donnelly forged their professional partnership after starring in the children's drama series Byker Grove together in the 1990s.
Ant and Dec have been best friends for over two decades.
The telly presenter, one half of duo Ant and Dec, has candidly opened up about his battle.
Previous year the two Geordies were awarded OBEs in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
