The Powerball jackpot, which was won by a lucky soul in California on Saturday , soared to almost $448 million, after last week's drawing failed to yield a victor for the top prize. The Powerball game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. Both amounts do not figure in a deduction for taxes.

The 10th largest Powerball drawing was held Saturday night.

No one has won the jackpot since April 1, thus the reason for its large size.

Menifee has about 89,000 residents.
