Russia said its warplanes were flying over Syria at the time of the shootdown and the USA failed to use the existing deconfliction channel between us military officers at al-Udeid air base in Qatar and Russian officers at Hemeimeem air base.
The United States has moved quickly to contain an escalation of the situation after the jet was downed on Sunday evening when regime forces targeted the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, an alliance of Arab and Kurdish fighters battling IS.
The U.S. moved to ease tensions after the Russian Defense Ministry threatened to "track any air targets, including the worldwide coalition's planes and drones, found to the West of the Euphrates river" following the downing of a Syrian Su-22 jet by a U.S. F-18 fighter on Sunday, the first such incident in the six-year war.
Earlier, Syrian forces attacked Coalition fighters in Ja'Din, wounding a number of fighters and driving them from the town.
The downing of a Russian-built Su-22 attack plane by an US Navy jet on Saturday has prompted an increase in military tensions in Syria.
"The coalition's mission is to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria".
The downing of the aircraft was "a cynical violation of Syria's sovereignty", the Russian defense ministry said in an emailed statement yesterday.

The Russian announcements came in response to the downing of the Syrian Air Force plane, which was the first time for the USA after it began fighting the IS in Syria, leading a coalition of global forces, in 2014.
"Any aircraft, including planes and drones belonging to the worldwide coalition operating west of the Euphrates river, will be tracked by Russian anti-aircraft forces in the sky and on the ground and treated as targets", the ministry said.
Russia, a key backer of Syrian President Bashar Assad, has been providing an air cover to the government's offensive on the Islamic State group since 2015.
"For operational security considerations, the Canadian Armed Forces will not disclose the frequency of the flights or the exact locations nor the details of our force protection measures and risk assessment process", spokeman Daniel Le Bouthillier said in an email.
The ministry insisted that the SU-22 jet had been on a mission in Syrian government airspace. "However, the command of the coalition forces didn't use the existing channel between the air command of the Qatari airbase al Udeid and the [Russian] Hmeymim airbase to avoid incidents over Syria".
US forces tangled earlier this month with Syria-allied aircraft in the region.
Moscow has condemned the USA downing of the Syrian government fighter jet after it dropped bombs nears US partner forces. Sunday's incident came one month after a USA airstrike hit a pro-Assad militia that threatened US -backed forces in southern Syria. The cause then was the USA missile strikes on Syria in response to Assad's deadly chemical attack in the country's Idlib province.
