The Indian fans expected team India to lift the ICC Champions Trophy yet another time ahead of the finals against Pakistan on June 18.
Caught off a no-ball on three, left-handed opener Fakhar went on to make an impressive 114.
Pakistan entered the eight-team Champions Trophy in England and Wales ranked dead last, but upset arch-rivals India with a 180-run thrashing in Sunday's final.
Title-holders India, who thrashed Pakistan by 124 runs in their opening group match, were unchanged from the side that hammered Bangladesh by nine wickets in Thursday's semi-final at Birmingham's Edgbaston.
On Sunday, when Pakistan, who entered the tournament as World No. 8, outclassed India by 180 runs to lift the title, Latif chose to end the debate between him and Sehwag in a calm manner.
"Not just today, not just tomorrow, this day will be remembered in Pakistan for years to come, said a beaming Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed as he made a passionate plea to other nations to play worldwide cricket in their country".
The former captain said he was highly impressed with the way the team bounced back to win the trophy after the heavy loss to India in the opening match. "So, hopefully, this win will boost Pakistan cricket and all [cricket] playing nations will come to Pakistan".
"The top order of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been remarkable, looking in total control out in the middle".
Man U should go all-in on Cristiano Ronaldo if he becomes available
That bumper pay rise helped Ronaldo, 32, become the best-paid sportsmen in the world. Ronaldo has denied any wrongdoing.
He shared a first-wicket stand of 128 with Azhar Ali (59) and then put on 72 with Babar Azam (46) for the second wicket.
Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali also chipped in with half-centuries on the way to setting India a target of 339 - the highest ever ODI total scored by Pakistan in a final.
When teenage leg-spinner Shadab then struck in his first over via DRS, hitting Yuvraj Singh pad before bat, and MS Dhoni pulled Hasan Ali (three for 19) for a tumbling catch in the deep, India were washed up at 54 for five - and there was no realistic way back.
"It was a great achievement by the boys and full credit to them". Fakhar and Amir were brilliant.
"It's a great, great team effort", Hafeez said.
Sarfaraz went on to acknowledge the mature response he received from his side, comprised of many fresh recruits, saying, "When superstars play it is easier to guide them during a match because they don't need much guidance; they already know how to cope with high-pressure situations".
The country has a tradition of producing exciting fast bowling talent and 25-year-old Mohammad Amir and Junaid Khan, 27, can be expected to spearhead the pace attack at the next World Cup. People need to understand that it is just a game of cricket and teams do lose to one another.
