Philadelphia completed its trade for the No. 1 overall pick in this year's National Basketball Association draft, landing the pick from the Boston Celtics on Monday in a move that clears the way for the 76ers to grab guard Markelle Fultz.
But the Sixers undoubtedly view their successful trade with the Celtics in which the Sixers have nabbed the No. 1 overall pick from Boston, as their biggest one yet. This past season, they had one of the best records in the league and were able to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, but appear to be a couple players away from getting any further. Ainge wouldn't get into specifics, but his comments suggest the Celtics wouldn't have taken either player at No. 1 had they kept the pick. "We felt it was very close in the top handful of players; we still feel that way. Just being with a young team", Fultz said of playing with the Sixers.
Fultz worked out for the 76ers on Saturday evening and spoke to reporters after the workout, amid trade rumors.
Many experts and fans agree that the Lakers will pick one of the most talked-about players in the draft, Lonzo Ball. But apparently the feeling wasn't mutual, if you believe Danny Ainge. But the only way a deal can go down between the two is something tempting. I say that very complimentary, because of what Carmelo was as a scorer that one year at Syracuse. "I can't imagine a team with LeBron James or Curry or Harden or Westbrook being that bad regardless of the supporting cast around them".
The deal is a win-win for both sides.
The Celtics will receive the Los Angeles Lakers' 2018 first-rounder if it falls between Nos. But what, now that the Celtics have picked up what could be the 12th pick in the 2019 draft in order to move down two spots, they should suddenly be OK with moving their top pick for Butler? Fultz adds instant offense and long-range shooting to a team that finished 25th in points per game and tied for 24th in three-point percentage last season.

There had been talk recently that a trade was in the works but nothing had been made official.
With the recent deal between the 76ers and the Celtics, acoording to Jon Wolfond, Ainge said "the phones have been ringing" since. We watched the same Finals that everybody did. Last time, we wanted you to name the No. 1 picks, but this time instead we'd like to see how well you remember the selection that came immediately after No. 1.
It will mark the second straight year that Philadelphia selects first overall. Boston's additional compensation, the future first-rounder, necessitated more of an explanation. 2-5 in the draft lottery.
Boston, meanwhile, could potentially own the draft rights to seven first-round selections over the next three seasons.
"This is certainly a trade that is under the microscope more than others", Ainge said. "But we're not afraid of that".
