Theresa May 'distraught' over fatal London tower blaze

At least 58 people, who are missing following the recent fire disaster in residential Grenfell Tower block in west London, are presumed dead, British police said Saturday.

Cundy said the police investigation into the blaze would look at the building and its refurbishment in 2016 and vowed to prosecute people "if there is evidence". The UK government has already announced a full judge-led public inquiry in an attempt to learn lessons from the tragedy and implement any necessary fire measures in other residential towers blocks. The figure of 30 which I gave yesterday is the number that I know, sadly, have at least died.

Local councils will also carry out safety checks on buildings similar to the Grenfell Tower, the prime minister said. Firefighters took more than 24 hours to bring the blaze under control.

When the prime minister visited the west London site of the fire on Thursday she spoke only to emergency services.

Local residents also say they are angry that their safety concerns had been ignored and that people had been told to stay in their flats in the event of a fire.

Hundreds of people marched from Kensington town hall toward the gutted tower on Friday evening, some brandishing Socialist Worker Party placards emblazoned with slogans including "Defy Tory Rule" and "no justice, no peace".

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Saturday said that she believed the official response to the fire that had engulfed a high-rise in London on Wednesday morning was "not good enough", reported Reuters.

Ms May, who was criticised a day earlier for not meeting with locals and survivors, visited the area again on Friday to meet with some locals inside a church. Residents in other blocks with the same exterior cladding as Grenfell Tower were concerned, he wrote.

The firm owned 4,549,367 shares of the utilities provider's stock after buying an additional 3,479,059 shares during the period. Equities research analysts expect that Frontier Communications Corporation will post ($0.25) EPS for the current fiscal year.

After hearing residents complaints regarding the lack of support on the ground, she said she has also ordered daily progress reports on housing for those affected.

In a statement to mark the official celebration of her 91st birthday, she said: "It is hard to escape a very soreer national mood" after a "succession of terrific tragedies".

The meeting lasted more than two hours Saturday but the group did not speak to reporters gathered outside.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Police commander Stuart Cundy responded to speculation that the number of dead could exceed 100, saying: "From a personal perspective, I really hope it isn't".

A top former Conservative politician and Times of London columnist blasted May over her handling of the fire, and said that she must resign.

He told BBC One's Andrew Marr Show: "My understanding is the cladding in question, this flammable cladding which is banned in Europe and the U.S., is also banned here". British press is reporting that as many as 70 people are still missing and unaccounted for in the tower.

Nonetheless, authorities should still "review multi-story social housing units to ensure that all early-warning systems, including alarm and detection systems and means of escape, including corridors, stairways and emergency exits, are fully functional and in place", he said. This year, however, it is very hard to escape a very sombre national mood. "Put to the test, the United Kingdom has been resolute in the face of adversity". Some have even referred to it as her Hurricane Katrina moment.
