76ers, Celtics agree on trade for No. 1 pick

The Philadelphia 76ers, after their trade with Boston, will make it two straight seasons picking first overall and the fourth consecutive year picking in the top three.

Ainge has exercised patience through several seasons in building the franchise back up after the dismantling of the Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce-Ray Allen-Rajon Rondo Celtics, adding via trade and free agency while keeping his war chest of draft picks - a lot of them acquired in the worst trade in league history with the Nets - in order to position the team for any trade should a superstar become available. In return, the Celtics will get Philly's Third overall pick, and two of the 76ers future 1st round picks.

Whether you are a die-hard Celtics or just a casual NBA observer, there's no getting around the impact Ainge has had on this franchise since becoming its president of basketball operations. His visit was expected to be one of the final hurdles to clear before Boston and Philadelphia could decide to actually consummate the trade. When it transitioned to Joel Embiid this past season.

Wojnarowski also reported that Fultz would not have agreed to a workout with the Sixers on Saturday if a deal was not in place. Of course, the Sixers have been one of the worst teams in the league for years, so that won't be much of an adjustment for Fultz. From the looks of the tweet, Jackson was poking fun at the excitement about a player who couldn't elevate his team and put up great numbers simultaneously. Embiid and Dario Saric will finish in the top three when rookie of the year results get announced on June 26, and Simmons is expected to be ready for next season after recovering from foot surgery.

"I'm definitely going to get some cheesesteaks from somewhere", Fultz said after working out for the 76ers. I'm truly blessed to be in this position. "Whatever happens, I'm looking forward to taking my talents to wherever I go". After much speculation regarding how they'd use the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, general manager Danny Ainge chose to send it to the Philadelphia 76ers.

For Boston, if Fultz is a superstar, then Ainge will have missed out on finding a player in the draft who could replace Thomas and bridge the gap between now and when the East is up for grabs again.

In the meantime, the highest regarded player in the field turned his attention from the Celtics to the Sixers yesterday.

Ronaldo an example for all Portugal, insists Patricio
He prefers ice hockey and saw a team that carried fervent hopes of an Olympic title lose on home ice in the quarterfinals at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

So here they are: the Celtics' five most likely options for spending the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. And if he gets to start his pro career by calling Philadelphia his new home, he'll be living roughly a 2½-hour drive from his hometown of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. It's been a blessing. Like I said, a dream I always had.

Danny Ainge must have not been sold on Markelle Fultz enough to change around his young back court, as well as turn down the opportunity to acquire valuable assets.

After finishing sixth in the nation in scoring with a 23.3 points-per-game clip, Fultz averaged 5.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game - shooting a blazing 41.3 percent from beyond the arc. Fultz led the Pac-12 in scoring and finished No. 6 among all Division 1 players, and was the top freshman scorer in the US.

Durant and Beasley were both No. 2 draft picks.

Fultz might be a few days away from going one spot better.

I'm told in addition to this, Boston "had serious concerns about Fultz being a victor". The 19-year-old worked out for Philadelphia on Saturday as the deal was in the works.
