If that death toll is confirmed, it would make the Grenfell Tower blaze the deadliest in London since the Second World War.

A huge fire started at the 24-floor Grenfell tower high-rise block in North Kensington on Wednesday, engulfing the entire building and trapping nearly 120 families inside.

The fire forced residents to flee through black smoke down the single stairwell, jump out of windows or even drop their children from the building.

Residents furious over the handling of the Grenfell Tower disaster descended on the local town hall Friday in west London, shouting, "We want justice". Some 600 people were living in the tower's 120 apartments. All the rest are homeless.

May said after the meeting Saturday that there have been "huge frustrations" in the community as people tried to get information. They also complained that May's visit to the neighborhood was too slow and that support was lacking for those who lost relatives and homes.

Stuart Cundy told reporters on Saturday, adding that the figure could change.

"It was a death trap and they knew it", one person shouted as demonstrators swelled outside the council building, with dozens going inside and clashing with police and security guards.

Search-and-recovery efforts were paused on Friday over safety concerns, but resumed Saturday afternoon, police said.

He reiterated there is a police investigation underway and that it will look at how the fire spread. "My heart goes out to those affected", Cundy said.

Members of the public said there appeared to be no centralised list of those missing, and that they were forced to continually visit or call the various rescue centres and hospitals that were dealing with those affected. 16 bodies have been recovered from the Tower and taken to a mortuary.

Brits Are Upset With The Prime Minister's Response To The London Fire
The newspaper said Friday that Omnis Exteriors manufactured the aluminum composite material used in the cladding. At least 58 people are dead or presumed dead and many others are homeless. "We are not here to trouble people".

Major roads near the stricken building were open Saturday.

"Newspapers are calling May's decision not to meet survivors the day after the blaze her "Hurricane Katrina" moment", NPR's Frank Langfitt notes. "However, there may be other people who were in there on the night that others were not aware were there", he said.

Survivors and families of the victims are demanding answers in light of reports that external panelling put up during a recent renovation contributed to the flames' rapid spread.

It came after she met victims of the blaze at Downing Street, amid criticism she had not seen them in the immediate wake of the disaster.

"The fire at Grenfell Tower was an unimaginable tragedy for the community, and for our country". People have lost their lives and others have lost everything, all their possessions, their home and everything.

The queen's official birthday is marked in June when the weather is often nicer than in April, the actual month of her birth.

"The figure of 30 that I gave yesterday is the number that I know, sadly, have, at least, died", he said. City police have announced 58 people remain missing and "we assume likely to have died".

The blaze tore through all floors of the building and took more than 200 firefighters 24 hours to bring it under control. More than 3 million pounds ($3.8 million) have been raised for the victims.

The group, most dressed in casual clothes, made clear their demands to May in a two-and-a-half-hour meeting. Britain's Press Association says around 70 people are missing. Earlier in the day, the 91-year-old monarch described the country's mood as "somber" but insisted that Britain remained resolute during a hard time.
