Jelena Ostapenko became the first Latvian woman to reach a Grand Slam semifinal in the professional era after a shock win against Caroline Wozniacki.
First up on each of the tournament's two main courts on Tuesday's schedule are women's matches: No. 13 Kristina Mladenovic of France against No. 30 Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland at Court Philippe Chatrier, and No. 11 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark against unseeded 19-year-old Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia at Court Suzanne Lenglen. For many years, big things have happened for me at Roland Garros.
Insane twists of fate aside, the fact that we have a 19-year-old in the semi-finals of Roland Garros for the first time since Ana Ivanovic in 2007 is great news.
Earlier, the two men's quarterfinal matches have been postponed until Wednesday after rain disrupted play at Roland Garros, organisers said.
Thursday's encounter also falls on the day when Ostapenko turns 20 and Bacsinszky is 28.
The last two women's quarterfinals are also Wednesday: No. 2 Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic vs.
"It was really hard because we had all the seasons rolled into one today", Bacsinszky said.
After a three-hour suspension, the two matches were halted once again by a brief rain around 7 p.m.
First set Bacsinszky took through the break in the ninth game and in the second game bounced back from the account 1:3 and finished off Mladenovic in the tenth game.

It was Bacsinszky's 14th victory in her last 16 matches in Paris. Bacsinszky didn't back down, fighting it off on an aggressive passage of play before bringing up match point with a perfectly placed victor down the line.
The gulf in experience between Wozniacki, who was competing in her eighth Grand Slam quarter-final, and Ostapenko was huge.
All seven former Grand Slam champions in this year's French Open draw, and seven of the 10 Major finalists had all fallen by the wayside by the quarter-finals. "I just have to go out there and just do my best", she said.
It was all the more impressive considering she hardly slept the night before.
- Local favourite Kristina Mladenovic saved a break point after play resumed following a rain delay and then broke Timea Bacsinszky to lead 3-1 before dropping her serve twice to trail 4-3 in the second set after Bacsinszky won the first 6-4.
Having trailed 5-0 in the first set, Ostapenko rallied to 5-4 before losing the set 6-4.
She said: "The magic has been happening for me here always - even the first time I came here as a little kid".
Undeterred, Ostapenko maintained the momentum and had Wozniacki scurrying around behind the baseline as the Latvian walloped the ball into the corners, often finishing rallies by thrashing away mid-court volleys. I tried to play aggressive every shot.
"Serena hasn't taken part in this tournament, so this will help me quite a lot", Bacsinszky said.
