The trial marks a crushing fall from grace for an entertainer for decades loved by millions as "America's Dad" for his seminal role as a lovable father and obstetrician on hit TV series "The Cosby Show".

The 79-year-old Cosby has been charged with drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand, a former Temple University official, in 2004.

She said, "I'm grateful that they are not rushing to a verdict".

Constand alleged that Cosby gave her three blue pills that he said were herbal and would help her relax.

Dozens of women have come forward to say Cosby had drugged and assaulted them, but this was the only case to result in criminal charges.

Gianna Constand, the accuser's fiercely protective mother, testified that Cosby apologized over the phone to her and her daughter and offered to pay for her schooling. Allison held the woman's hand as she tried to persuade her to change her mind and told the woman she would have had the same opinion if she had never been alone in a room with Cosby. If the last attempt produces a hung jury, O'Neill will declare a mistrial.

And the spokesman took a shot at district attorney Kevin Steele, saying that the prosecutor had used the case as "catapult for his ambitions".

Prosecutors say the comedian gave Constand pills that immobilized her and that she couldn't fight off his sexual advances.

"I was really nervous and wasn't able to recall every particular moment that I had seen Mr. Cosby in order of dates", she explained.

By Wednesday night, jurors asked the judge several questions seeking clarification and re-reading of excerpts of Cosby's own words about his 2004 encounter with accuser Andrea Constand at his nearby home.

Prosecutors tried to paint the calls as business-related, because Cosby was a Temple trustee and Constand was an employee. The case has little forensic evidence, and legal experts have said it fits the "he said-she said" dynamic so common to sexual offense cases.

The trial started on June 5.

The comedian faces three charges of aggravated indecent assault.

Cosby has pleaded not guilty to the charges - insisting their sexual contact was consensual - and has denied similar allegations from more than 60 women. In that case, Cosby would not be found guilty, nor would he be acquitted.

"It's a very, very rare occasion that a judge is going to let a jury off the hook on the first indication they're hopelessly deadlocked", Paskey said.

"Put them down, they're your friends".

The jurors informed the judge on Thursday morning they were unable to reach a consensus on any of the charges, each of which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence. She read a prayer before telling Cosby's supporters what she says he did to her. Constand was joined by her mother in court for Thursday's announcement of a deadlock, BBC News reported. If nothing else, she says the case has revived debate about rape and consent.

In response to the jury's sixth question, Schaffer's entire testimony had to be transcribed by the court reporter, which she read back to the jury.
