Bill Cosby Jury Deadlocked on Day Nine of Trial

She explained away the numerous phone calls they had afterward by saying she was merely returning Cosby's messages about the women's basketball squad at Temple University, where he was a powerful member of the board of trustees and she was at that time director of team operations. In clear and firm statements, she said Cosby, a powerful Temple alum, mentored her and took an interest in her career like a father figure. A former Playboy playmate, she says Cosby drugged and raped her in 1969. He says it was consensual.

"I am required to read you an instruction".

On Thursday, Cosby exited the court smiling. But the atmosphere remained calm, with accusers and supporters even holding hands at times.

One of Cosby's accusers and former guest star on The Cosby Show, Lili Bernard, was seen detailing her allegations against the comedian.

"It's not over until it's over, and it's not over yet", she said. "Mr. Cosby should not be here today". It's unclear how long he might order them to continue before declaring a mistrial. Moments after the jury was sent back for another try at reaching a verdict, Cosby walked out of the courtroom on the arm of his publicist.

"We cannot come to a unanimous consensus on any of these counts", the panel said in a note to the judge sent out at 11:06 a.m. after more than 30 hours of deliberations. The judge in the case told them to keep deliberating.

The portion of Constand's seven hours of trial testimony during which she talked about the night she says Cosby drugged and sexually violated her. But in most of those cases, the statute of limitation had expired by the time the women came forward. Constand's case is the only one in which Cosby has been charged.

The jury in the Bill Cosby sex assault trial is having trouble reaching a verdict.

Jurors have been debating the charges against Cosby for more than 27 hours since getting the case Monday.

The jurors are not taking the trial lightly, having asked six questions during their deliberations, CNN reported.

The trial outside Philadelphia involves Cosby's sexual encounter with a woman at his home in 2004.

The incident allegedly took place when Constand visited Cosby's home outside of Philadelphia, in Elkins Park, Montgomery County.

Each of the three counts carries a sentence of from five to 10 years in prison if Cosby, who's 79, is convicted.
