Maclin catches on with Ravens after unexpected exit from KC

"I've never said we have a No. 1 guy".

"When I got a chance to come here and meet all the guys and meet all the coaches, it just felt right", Maclin said Wednesday after his first practice with the Ravens. Maclin spent one entire special-teams period of the June 14 practice having a one-on-one conversation with Mornhinweg.

"If I don't get an offensive lineman, somebody is going to start shooting at me", said Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, via the Baltimore Sun.

If the Ravens were to sign Decker, he would help offset the loss of tight end Dennis Pitta, who hauled in 86 receptions last season.

Maclin, 32, starred at Missouri before beginning his National Football League career in 2009 with Philadelphia.

Maclin missed four games in 2016 and his receptions (44), yards (536) and touchdowns (two) all dipped significantly.

The Ravens quickly joined the Maclin free-agency sweepstakes, hosting Maclin for two days after he had spent two days in Buffalo.

"Everything my wife said was always about Baltimore", said Maclin, who is believed to have chosen the Ravens over his former team, the Eagles, and the Buffalo Bills.

Maclin left Baltimore without a contract, but after talking it over with his wife, Adia, he settled on Baltimore as his new home. Joe Flacco texted Maclin to make sure he was coming to Baltimore, he watched Game 3 of the National Basketball Association finals at safety Tony Jefferson's house, and even Smith came around to talk to him.

"Of course it hurt a little bit, just kind of how it went down and it being so unexpected", he said. "Everything my wife said was always about Baltimore". "That was probably a good sign as well".

". She was all for it".

Meanwhile, quarterback Joe Flacco seems to like the idea of signing Decker as well even if they already have Maclin onboard. Former first-round pick Breshad Perriman has looked strong this spring and is expected to take a major step forward during his second full season on the field. The fourth-round pick out of Florida has made some nifty catches, has decent speed and can play big enough at 6-foot-1 to give his quarterbacks a reasonable target.

"There's definitely some different things that are in the playbook now - some different terminology, some different terms - but the base of it is still kind of the same", Maclin said. "I don't try to pitch people, to be honest with you".

Jeremy Maclin said he needed time to figure out where he chose to play football next, and the decision ultimately boiled down to intuition.

Notes: The three-day mandatory minicamp ends Thursday. One pass in 11-on-11 drills sailed through his hands and was intercepted by rookie Marlon Humphrey. Mike Wallace was coming off a productive season, but Perriman caught just 33 passes.

"Newsome reminded reporters on a few occasions that there will be opportunities to upgrade the roster at several spots, including receiver, all the way up until the regular-season opener", Zrebiec wrote.
