Secret Service says it does not have any White House tapes

"I think the last 24, 48 hours were all good for the president, confirmed he was telling the truth all along, that he wasn't under investigation", GOP Rep. Jim Jordan of OH said Friday, referring to Comey's confirmation that he had informed Trump that the president wasn't being personally investigated.

President Donald Trump is back in Washington, with his family at his side, after spending the weekend at his New Jersey golf club. And what's the White House response?

"We have never had a White House or an administration that has not only been more receptive to the issues we care about, but is willing to fight for them every single day, from the president on down", said Ralph Reed, the coalition chairman, at a small lunch with reporters at the Omni Shoreham Hotel a few miles from the White House.

Trump wrote earlier on Friday on Twitter that the former FBI head had vindicated him by telling the Senate Intelligence Committee that the president had not been personally under investigation in the Russian Federation probe.

Confronted with mounting and increasingly difficult-to-refute evidence that the president attempted to obstruct justice, Republicans in Congress have settled on a novel defense of Trump: He's too inexperienced and bumbling to know he did anything wrong.

The Comey testimony was, at the very least, a stinging portrayal of a president who doesn't understand or evidently much care how our government is supposed to work.

Trump faced journalists at the White House on Friday afternoon in a joint news conference with the president of Romania, a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partner. "The Democrats and their followers".

He was also careful to say it would be up to a special prosecutor, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief Robert Mueller, to decide whether Trump should be investigated for obstruction of justice in trying to steer the Russian Federation probe and in sacking Comey.

Jeff Sessions Pushes Back On Suggestions Of Collusion
Ron Wyden of OR asked Sessions whether there were any undisclosed reasons for his recusal from the Russian Federation probe. But the majority of the responses from Sessions went around in circles, and some on the committee grew clearly frustrated.

Trump, his arms waving, objected to Comey's testimony that the president repeatedly pressed him for his "loyalty" during a private White House dinner. He said he did this because felt the investigation may have reached a point at which a special counsel needed to be appointed.

The full-throated evangelical support for Trump would have seemed unfathomable a year ago. This was a constituency that was sharply divided over whether to turn out for a thrice-married former Democrat with a relatively socially moderate history.

Trump's promises to appoint a conservative, anti-abortion rights Supreme Court justice, along with his selection of Mike Pence as his running mate, helped contribute to support from a whopping 81 percent of evangelical voters in November, outpacing President George W. Bush, a born-again Christian himself, in 2004. But after Trump fired Comey in May, the president tweeted: "Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

Conway was enthusiastically received herself, earning several standing ovations as she addressed the crowd on Friday. No matter how hard the White House tries to spin it, that's bad news for Donald Trump.

Former FBI director James Comey testifies before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, June 8, 2017. Mr. Grassley is now accusing his own party leadership of erecting a "stone wall" to protect Mr. Comey from his committee. "Don't worry", Trump said. "We have to worry about protecting the country".

Mr Kasowitz said yesterday following the hearing that Mr Comey could be investigated for leaking information, and suggested he may have lied in his sworn Senate testimony. The president said during the news conference that he would comment about it in the "near future", but clarified he was not hinting anything.

"There's a lynch mob mentality about the Trump Administration in the press, but these tweets that he does feeds that lynch mob", said Sen. He couldn't leave well enough alone. "So I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter".

"It's not clear there was any underlying crime".
