Last month , San Francisco Fed President John Williams endorsed the idea of allowing inflation to rise above two percent to make up for the period in which it has been below target, and Federal Reserve Vice Chair Stanley Fischer praised the Canadian central bank's method of re-evaluating its inflation target every five years. Southeast Asia in particular is often vulnerable because of dollar-denominated debt serviced in local currencies, an arrangement dubbed "Original Sin" by economists Barry Eichengreen and Ricardo Hausmann after the region's 1997-98 meltdown.
Asian stocks rebounded on Tuesday despite a further slide in US tech shares, while the Canadian dollar soared on the possibility that interest rates might go up sooner than expected.
Jared Bernstein of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities told AFP the Fed is likely to increase rates to ensure it will have room to maneuver and lower rates again in the event of a negative shock to the economy.

The Fed's preferred inflation measure, the PCE deflator, also came in at a weaker 1.5 percent, well below the Fed's 2 percent inflation target. The Australian dollar flirted with multi-week highs against its US counterpart on Tuesday, even as investors fully expect the Federal Reserve to lift interest rates in a day's time.
And America's worker productivity growth is dismal, averaging just 1.2 percent a year since 2007 - half the annual gains registered from 2000 to 2007.
Just to complicate matters further, the Fed has discussed reducing the balance sheet, probably starting later this year which would likely slow the pace of rate hikes over the next couple of years.

Now, the 10-year T-note yields 2.2 percent, down from 2.6 percent in March.
