According to diplomatic sources, on 5 June Indian authorities released 2 children, Ten-year-old Babar and 12-year-old Ali Raza, who had unintentionally crossed the border.

The move came after Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif convened a meeting with President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani and Secretary General of United Nations Organisation (UNO), António Guterres, and shook hands with Indian counterpart Narendra Modi under auspices of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Pakistan had sought the release of these prisoners as they had all served their respective sentences.

"I can tell you that during the 17th SCO council head of states President Xi Jinping met several times with Pakistani Prime Minister (Nawaz) Sharif and I think some reports are just nonsense and unwarranted", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said.

Indian and Pakistan are now in a row over the death sentence of Khulbhushan Jadhav.

Indian officials were quoted by the Times of India as saying that the release of the 11 prisoners was a humanitarian issue and, therefore, should not be linked to tension in Indo-Pak ties over the Jadhav case.

Pakistan hopes India will attend the Saarc Summit expected to be held in Islamabad later this year, a top Pakistani diplomat said on Monday, adding the two countries need to move beyond differences. The Indian government had made a decision to release the children in April, but put the release on hold after a Pakistani army court sentenced Jadhav to death for espionage.

According to India, around 57 prisoners out of the 132 Indian prisoners presently lodged in jails in Pakistan have already completed their sentence. Pakistan says that India has to confirm their nationality before it releases them. India got a stay on Jadhav's death sentence.
