Kumble was in the centre of a controversy and there were rumours galore that he would not be given an extension after the ICC Champions Trophy, now underway in England and Wales, as well as about a "rift" between him and captain Virat Kohli.
Kumble's contract as Indian cricket team's head coach will end post-India's campaign at the Champions Trophy and the BCCI has already invited applications for the position.
The BCCI is likely to retain Anil Kumble as coach for India's tour of the West Indies immediately after the ongoing Champions Trophy.
"Coach selection has been entrusted to the CAC which selected Anil Kumble last year for a one-year contract". Now the process has to be followed.
However, the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, who had appointed Kumble in 2016 for a one-year period, firmly backed Kumble to continue.
As per as ESPNcricinfo, the committee will speak to both Kumble and skipper Virat Kohli in an attempt to resolve differences that have emerged between the pair.
"But the advisory committee is meeting in London to decide about the coach".
