Champions Trophy: Indian cricket fans call Vijay Mallya 'chor'

While attending India-South Africa Champions Trophy match here on Sunday, absconding businessman Vijay Mallya was booed by the visitors with the shouts of "chor, chor" (thief) outside the stadium The Oval.

The 61-year-old chief of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines, who has been living in self-imposed exile in Britain since last year and is facing extradition proceedings in United Kingdom courts, walked speedily past Indian fans outside the stadium. The Indian government have been trying for Mallya's extradition.

As the absconding businessman, dressed in black pants and a sky blue blazer, walked speedily past the Indian fans to enter the stadium through the Sir Jack Hobbs Gate, the cricket fans booed him.

Once called the "King of Good Times" due to his extravagant lifestyle, Mallya and his companies have been embroiled in financial scandals, and controversies since 2012. The former UB group chief fled the country previous year and has unpaid debts close to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore taken as loans from various Indian banks.

But suffice it to say, when heroes fall, Americans grieve. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of American heroes". The police were killed in a friendly fire incident when a US airstrike occurred on an Afghan border post.

Also on the show, Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Misa Bharti will appear before the Income Tax Department, in connection with a money laundering case registered against her.

As several Indians remained at the edge of the seat when Men in Blue were playing against Australia, they did not miss a chance to boo businessman Vijay Mallya who was present to cheer the team.

In April, Mallya was arrested by Scotland Yard on fraud allegations, triggering an official extradition process in the British courts.
