Elijah Wood on Twitter - "Sad to hear of Adam West's passing". After more than 50 years as Batman and Robin, one half of the dynamic duo is no more and clearly that loss is being felt not only by the fans, but also by his longtime friend and crime fighting partner.
Adam West, who immortalized the caped superhero for the 1960's TV series Batman, died Friday after a short battle with leukemia at the age of 88.
In recent years he had voiced the character Mayor Adam West in more than 100 episodes of Seth MacFarlane's satirical cartoon Family Guy.
A string of other actors would go on to play the Batman character, including Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. We shared some of the most fun times of our lives together.
"A friend called me up this morning and said to me with tears in his voice, that Adam West was the father that we wanted", she said.
On behalf of 411, we sound our thoughts and condolences to the friends, family and friends of the great Adam West. "Our families have deep love and respect for each other", Ward told Variety.
In a statement MacFarlane said, "Family Guy has lost its mayor, and I have lost a friend".
Police first responder describes London Bridge attack mayhem
Speaking in quiet, measured tones, the 56-year-old points out that London has been hit by terrorist attacks throughout her life. This was the safe house where the attack was planned, police said. " London is an incredibly resilient city", she said.
He returned to the role in an episode of "The Simpsons" and in 2003's "Return to the Batcave", in which he reminisced with his former co-star Ward, reprising his role as Robin, while chasing villains who had stolen the Batmobile from a museum.
After "Batman", West continued to appear in films and on television, though he was often typecast.
Julie Newmar, one of three actresses to play Catwoman during the show's run, told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield that West "was and will be and always will be the finest Batman ever. He was truly the Bright Knight". "He was and always will be our hero". "He was bright, witty and fun to work with".
Tributes to the actor poured in via social media following news of his death.
Newmar, interviewed on CNN Saturday, said West connected with his fans on a personal level. "I miss him terribly".
After the cancellation of the series, West found it hard to land other acting jobs, even though he was an established film and TV actor, because he had become so linked to the Batman role.
His work helped bring comic books into the mainstream, and encouraged a generation to discover the wonderful stories and characters that made up Batman's world through the pages of comic books like Batman and Detective Comics.
