Like a knife in my side - Woakes frustrated by tournament-ending injury

Middlesex bowler Steve Finn will replace all-rounder Chris Woakes in England's Champions Trophy squad.

Both Finn and Roland-Jones featured in England's one-day global defeat by South Africa at Lord's - a match where Woakes was rested as he recovered from a thigh problem.

After taking 17 wickets in 13 matches during a productive Indian Premier League (IPL) stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders, Woakes, along with MVP Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, returned to worldwide duty for the start of the recent three-match ODI series against South Africa.

Liam Plunkett, whose haul of four wickets for 59 runs included the dismissals of in-form Bangladesh batsmen Tamim Iqbal (128) and Mushfiqur Rahim (79) with successive deliveries, helped England compensate for the loss of fellow paceman Woakes during the match.

"I was away from cricket coaching for a year, and now, I want to come back to it".

Woakes has emerged as one of the most dependable bowlers for England in recent months, impressing both with the new ball as well as in the death overs.

"An update on a replacement for the seamer will follow in due course".

England have preferred Finn's experience and proven wicket-taking ability to the likes of Tom Curran and Toby Roland-Jones, a record of 102 wickets at under 30 apiece and an economy-rate of a tick over five proving too much to resist.

Plunkett has already made a decent fist of the emergency assignment, his 4-59 in the hosts' emphatic opening win over Bangladesh taking his annual one-day worldwide wickets tally to 24 in 10 matches.

"But I think we play pretty well in these sort of situations so hopefully we can have a good win on Monday and then a big decider against England (on Saturday)".

Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza lamented that his side had been "20-30 runs short" against England, but he also struggled to contain the runs as Joe Root and Alex Hales targeted their part-timers.
