Several Arab media outlets claimed that the Islamic State group carried out the attacks, but removed the news report from their websites after half an hour, according to the semi-offical Fars News Agency. One showed a toddler being handed through a first-floor window to safety outside as an armed man looked on.
State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert had said the U.S.is sending thoughts and prayers to the Iranian people following the attacks.
The attacks Wednesday on Iran's parliament and the tomb of its revolutionary leader killed at least 17 people and wounded over 40, stunning its people.
Iran is a key fighting force against ISIS and other groups in Iraq and Syria, and the Sunni jihadists consider Iran's Shiite Muslims to be apostates.
Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard indirectly blamed Saudi Arabia for the attacks.
The attacks in Tehran this week will only "reinforce hatred" for the United States and Saudi Arabia, Iran's supreme leader said on Friday at a funeral for those killed.

Other Iranian leaders sought to play down the attacks, with supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei saying: "These firecrackers that happened today will not have the slightest effect on the will of the people".
Saudi foreign minister Adel Al-Jubeir said he did not know who was responsible for the attacks and said there was no evidence Saudi extremists were involved. The revered shrine was not damaged.
The Iranian official said that the situation in the region had exacerbated since the agreement was no surprise and cautioned against "such a risky approach towards regional security and its grave consequences". The US state department and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres both condemned the attacks.
"Let us tell the people of Iran that while we have serious disagreements with them on a number of issues, that today when they are mourning, when they are dealing with the shock of a terrorist attack, today is not the day to go forward with this piece of legislation", Sen.
Messages of support were sent by Russian President Vladimir Putin and from the Syrian foreign ministry.
IS released a video of the attackers from inside the building via its Amaq propaganda agency - a rare claim of responsibility while an attack was still going on, suggesting a degree of coordination. "The country has just suffered from two significant terrorist attacks after electing a moderate government with 57 per cent of the vote", she said. The other said the attacks would push Iran toward "a harsher regional policy".
