Two drafts of a document meant to set the parameters for negotiations during US-brokered talks in early 2014 recognized Israel as a Jewish state, dropped the Palestinian demand for a "right of return" and set Jerusalem as the capital for both Israel and Palestine, according to Israeli daily Haaretz, which says it obtained copies of the drafts.

Shapiro and Stern believe coming to a consensus on borders and strong, peace-minded leadership from both the Israelis and Palestinians will create the safest and most successful two-state solution. For them it is Jewish land grab of Arab "Palestinian" land, and an ensuing "occupation".

Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas's office on Tuesday slammed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's pledge to keep permanent security control over the West Bank, saying Israel was "not ready" for peace.

Settlements in the occupied West Bank and east Jerusalem are illegal under global law and are seen as one of the greatest obstacles to peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

During the period prior to the attack against Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser perpetrated by Israel on June 5, 1967, Nasser was portrayed as an evil and risky anti-Israel demagogue who wanted to bring Israel to its knees.

The so-called "occupied territories" are, in fact, territories in dispute, not illegally occupied, and after failed peace efforts in 1967, Israel has tried to forge peace with its Arab neighbors on multiple occasions. Arab governments that had gone to war to prevent Israel's creation still expected to someday erase it from the map.
