The Orange County Airport received $360,000, and the Sullivan County International Airport received $68,940, the release said.

The money is a small portion of the $17,182,465 in federal funding for 36 infrastructure projects at local airports across Upstate New York.

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the grant funding through the FAA's Airport Improvement Program, which is funded with passenger facilities charges that are tacked onto airline passenger tickets.

The aid package will include a push to get Canadian companies to do more of the value-added work on softwood in Canada. This time around, a low Canadian dollar and high market demand for softwood is helping to cushion the blow.

The funding will help ensure public safety and attract more business and tourism to the Hudson Valley region, Schumer said.

Kahului Airport will receive a total of $6,187,700 to support the acquisition of approximately 13.34 acres of privately owned land for the protection of the approach and departure airspace for Runway 2-20.

U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced Wednesday that $17.2 million in federal funding was given for airports in upstate NY, according to a press release. "These funds are a major investment that will help strengthen the local economy and allow the Long Island MacArthur Airport to finally complete renovations to their longest runway". "I will continue to push for resources that enhance efficiency and public safety at airports across NY". Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
