New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter, the last player to wear a single digit, will have the iconic No. 2 retired and immortalized into Monument Park Sunday night.
"I played here for 20 years and I learned that time flies and that memories fade, but family is forever", Jeter told the sold-out crowd of 48,000 that frequently broke into a familiar "Der-ek Je-ter" chant that rocked Yankee Stadium.
During his 20-year career as number two, Jeter served as the franchise's 13th captain and had 3,465 hits, 14 All-Star Games, and five World Series wins.

ET spoke with the Sports Illustrated model in February in New York City, where she revealed that she and Jeter want three kids down the line.
Fans roared in delight at the procession of Yankee favorites that helped salute Jeter as the Astros players lined the railing in front of the visitors' dugout to take in the tribute.
Destiny 2 probably coming to PC after consoles
Blizzard says making a brand new PC launcher/network client "would needlessly extend the development period for the game". Read on for a complete and ongoing history of all the reveals from Destiny 2 , which is now available for pre-order.
Tanaka (5-2), who had won his last five starts and accustomed to being cheered by the fans at Yankee Stadium, was booed off the mound after surrendering four home runs, including a first-inning grand slam to Alex Bregman in the second game of a doubleheader.
Tanaka (5-2) left to jeers with NY trailing 8-0, the most runs he allowed in his major league career. "I don't know (if a doubleheader is ironic), I never thought of that, but I'm not so sure Derek was big on doubleheaders, so maybe that's something". He wasn't the most talented player, both offensively and defensively, but for some reason, you wanted the ball hit to him and you wanted him to be at the plate. "He was kind of representative of an entire generation of great players".
Charlie Gasparino and Brian Schwartz of Fox Business reported in April that Jeter "expressed interest in bidding for the team" and was being represented in talks with Marlins president David Samson by Wall Street executive Gregory Fleming.
"I think Sunday will be special", Yankees Manager Joe Girardi said last week. He took the loss in the first game of a doubleheader in NY on May 18, 2014 when he allowed four runs and six hits in seven innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
NY trailed 3-1 before Starlin Castro's tying, two-run homer off Mike Fiers in the fourth. The relationship between Jeter and A-Rod has appeared to deteriorate over the years.
Eric Sogard and Orlando Arcia hit back-to-back homers in the sixth off Matt Harvey to break a 2-2 tie, spoiling the choppy return of the New York Mets' starter from a three-game suspension in the Milwaukee Brewers' 7-4 win on Friday night.
