The newly elected French President tweeted the video of himself walking up the red carpet towards the group of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders, seemingly headed straight towards the US President.

Trump had yet another odd handshake with a world leader when he met with newly-elected French president Emmanuel Macron on Thursday morning.

The incident also comes after Macron and Trump shared another power handshake on Thursday morning at the pair's first face-to-face meeting in Brussels. But, then, you know what they say: a country tends to take on the attributes and concerns of the person at its top.

The leaders signed a joint statement to "combat the misuse of the Internet by terrorists", backing efforts to make technology companies do more to crack down on what May called "the hateful ideology" of Islamic State.

May, who on Thursday raised concerns over intelligence leaks in the United States, met President Donald Trump between sessions at the G7, which host Italy hoped would concentrate minds on Europe's migrant crisis.

As far as Twitter users are concerned, Macron "won" the handshake in every possible way, from his impossibly tight grip to his rather nonchalant expression.

Cue laughs from leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation chief Jens Stoltenberg as Macron found his arm wrenched about by a smiling Trump. Macron stands outside greeting several diplomats, Trump among them, sharing brief handshakes and smiles in typical political fashion.

The ensuing handshake proved to be quite a spectacle, with the American demonstrating his signature energetic manoeuvrings, and seeming reluctant to let go.

On the one hand, we're always happy to see Trump's caveman negotiation tactics fail.

The most awkward, aggressive handshake ever?
