In a speech after he took the oath of office on Wednesday, Moon said he plans to eventually move out of the Blue House, which was seen as part of an attempt to be a more accessible leader.

"The Central Prosecutor's Office will ask for the handover of those criminals and prosecute them under the relevant laws", North Korean vice foreign minister Han Song Ryol told foreign diplomats and reporters in Pyongyang, China's Xinhua news agency reported. Suh was instrumental in setting up two previous summits between the North and South. His appointment requires parliamentary approval.

Mr Moon, 64, said: "I will urgently try to solve the security crisis".

"If necessary, I will fly to Washington right away". I will go to Beijing and I will go to Tokyo.

The South Korean statement said Trump said North Korea's nuclear problem was hard, but one that could be resolved.

VG: I think the staunch alliance between the USA and the Republic of Korea is expected to stay, but that doesn't mean the deployment of the THAAD anti-missile system in ROK by the United States is the right decision.

Moon says that the security benefits of THAAD, or Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, would be curtailed by worsened relations with China, whose help Washington and Seoul are trying to enlist to pressure Pyongyang into giving up its nuclear ambitions.

Moon is widely expected to seek engagement with North Korea to improve long-strained ties though Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs are limiting his leeway for reconciliatory policies. "If the conditions shape up, I will go to Pyongyang", Moon said. It featured dialog and engagement with North Korea, including family reunions, but fell by the wayside with the 2008 election of Lee Myung-bak, a conservative businessman who had opposed the policy in his presidential campaign.

If the Senators are to beat the Penguins, the club is going to have to shutdown Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin . As I said yesterday, the game isn't played on paper, and that is a good thing for the Senators.

Moon waved to well-wishers through the sunroof of his limousine, which was flanked by police motorbikes.

China also hopes the new South Korean government attaches importance to China's concerns and takes steps to promote the stable and healthy development of ties, Xi said.

"I look forward to meeting H.E. Mr. Moon Jae-in soon and also look forward to working closely as special strategic partners", Modi added.

Moon has said the decision was made hastily and his government should have the final say, but analysts say it would be hard to remove THAAD now it has been deployed.

Beijing sees it as a threat to the regional security balance. Now, it has conducted five nuclear tests and Kim Jong Un seems hell-bent on developing missiles that can deliver nuclear warheads to the United States.

In the first direct contact between the South Korean and Chinese leaders, Xi explained China's position, Yoon, the South Korean presidential spokesman said, without elaborating.

Earlier this month, South Korean officials said the THAAD system was already operating, and experts say it will be extremely hard now for Moon to ask Washington to withdraw it.

Both leaders agreed to maintain contact and meet at an early date.
