James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the follow-up to the 2014 box office smash that sent waves across the world when it grossed more than $777.3 million globally, opened in the USA this weekend with a galactic $145 million return, making it not only the top movie in the country, but also Marvel's fifteenth straight No. 1 opening domestically, according to CNN Money.

"Furious" sold $8.5 million in tickets in the fourth week of a lucrative run, which saw it surpass the one-billion-dollar mark worldwide. However, Vol. 2 did even better in the all-important Chinese market this weekend, opening 75% ahead of its predecessor.
The Superhero sequel has earned $427.6-M globally; elsewhere, TG teen drama "3 Generations" and Julian Assange documentary "Risk" both DOA at the specialty box office. Following Galaxy 2, there are a slew of sequels getting ready to hit the screens that includes Alien: Covenant, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Cars 3, Transformers: The Last Knight, Despicable Me 3 and War for the Planet of the Apes. The gap between first and second at the box office was huge.
World War II bombs defused in German city
On 9 October 1943, an especially deadly night, 1245 people were killed and 250,000 left homeless by 261,000 bombs. The massive 1.8-ton bomb was discovered during construction in the city's historic central district.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now being developed. "Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes" aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for 2020, then?
Guardians 2 launched last week in select global countries, and with the wide release in major markets including China, Japan and Korea this weekend, it has generated a staggering $425 million globally. How to Be a Latin Lover retained a spot in the top five with $5.3 million while Beauty and the Beast finished in fifth place with $4.9 million adding to its awesome $487.6 million total.
"Baahubali 2: The Conclusion", $3.2 million ($43.9 million international). Winning over audiences, the movie went on to bring in $333 million domestically and $440 million overseas.
