A magnitude-6.8 quake has struck north of Antarctica late this morning but it is not expected to cause a tsunami.
A new round of earthquakes struck the Kitsap County region Thursday morning, in the same vicinity where some other quakes hit within the past week.
A much smaller 1.7 magnitude quake was recorded Thursday near Granite Falls at 2:37 p.m. They measured from 2.5.to 3.3.

Even though the magnitude 3.6 quake happened east of Bremerton, people on Facebook said they felt shaking in such places as Ballard, Issaquah and Edmonds. It also triggered a tsunami that swept through Puget Sound.
"But, remember, these earthquakes are very far below the surface and can therefore not be of any of the Seattle Fault strands", Hartog wrote. He theorizes liquid may be moving through the Earth's crust.
It's part of a growing swarm of more than 50 recent quakes, mostly small, centered over Bainbridge Island and Bremerton.
