One of the three children was a two-year-old toddler.
The mayor and the head of the FDNY were en route to the scene of the fire Sunday, and said they would give an update to the public around 5:45 p.m. ABC7 is planning on streaming their comments live here.
"I seen the flames coming out of the roof".
"The monies are going to allow the park to continue to grow and improve", said Jordan Patch, who started the 20-acre zoo with his wife four years ago in Harpursville, about 130 miles northwest of New York City. They struggled to reach some of the victims who were as high up as the attic, a "super-human" task for firefighters to reach people in a home engulfed by such a massive fire, Nigro said. The person was a male in his 40s.
"It's a awful, tragic loss", Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro said at a news conference with Mayor Bill de Blasio near the burned-out house. He added that the man survived, but did not mention his condition. Witnesses heard tires pop, which may have been mistaken for an explosion, and Nigro said the preliminary investigation indicates the fire did not start from the vehicle. One of the people who witnessed the child being carried out was a grnadfather with children of his own, 67-year-old neighbor, Foster McPhee.
"The [firefighter] who was carrying the baby out, you could just see the stress on his face". He said firefighters arrived four minutes later and found the house consumed by fire.
Pittsburgh Penguins superstars just too much for overwhelmed Columbus Blue Jackets

White balloons were tethered to a fence and white and yellow flowers were placed outside the two-story home on 208th Street Monday, where relatives and friends of the victims came by to pay their respects.
No possible cause for the blaze has been released, and investigators scoured the scene overnight into Monday in search of clues.
"Our job now is to get down to the bottom of what happened and do everything we can to make sure that no family ever suffers like this again", de Blasio said on Twitter.
The wood frame house was destroyed in a multi-alarm fire in Queens Village on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Mayor Bill de Blasio said it is New York City's deadliest fire in two years.
The fire represented the worst loss of life in a single blaze since a house fire in the Midwood area of Brooklyn killed seven children in March 2015. They were all siblings.
