He also responded evasively to the question on whether the USA should break out of the deal, but again confirmed that "we have to look at Iran in a very comprehensive way in terms of the threat it poses in all areas, of the region and the world, and the JCPOA is just one element of that".
Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said on Friday that it would be a "grave mistake" to walk away from the deal negotiated by the Obama administration, predicting it would allow Tehran to make strides on its nuclear program, The Hill reported. The agreement was brokered by putting aside Iran's alleged support of terrorism to get a deal guaranteeing Iran would not be able to build a nuclear weapon for a decade and would remain in the eye of United Nations inspectors. Trump has always been a critic of the agreement, repeatedly taking aim at its terms and the negotiation process as one of the worst he's ever seen - a claim he repeated on Thursday.
Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - the United States, Britain, France, China and Russian Federation - plus Germany signed the JCPOA on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.
