It is the largest lead for the Conservatives and their highest rating in a YouGov poll since 2008, while UKIP's standing is the lowest in more than four years.

Angus MacNeil, MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, suggested the SNP have a more viable alternative to the Conservatives than the Labour Party.

In addition, reports The Independent, the father of three has vowed to "overturn the rigged system" of which he feels the government has full control.

Speaking in London, he framed the election as "the Conservatives, the party of privilege and the richest, versus the Labour Party".

"(May) will try to downplay the issues that affect people's lives every day and instead turn the election into an ego trip about her own failing leadership and the machinations of the coming negotiations in Brussels", he said.

A spokeswoman for Mr Corbyn insisted Labour's position, backing a "meaningful vote" in Parliament, had not changed.

Addressing supporters in the capital later, Mr Corbyn will say: "Much of the media and establishment are saying this election is a foregone conclusion".

Mr McDonnell said exact proposals would be cemented in the coming weeks, but Labour would ensure both "corporations and the rich" would pay more as part of a fairer tax system to cover the cost of increased investment in the NHS, schools and other services.

He insisted that Labour could win the election, despite their difficulties in the polls.
