Efforts to enlist more help from the United States in addressing Europe's migrant crisis appear to be falling short, with the Italian prime minister seemingly rebuffed during a joint news conference with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni made the remark in Trudeau's Parliament Hill office today, one day after he was praised by President Donald Trump during a visit to Washington. "I think right now the USA has enough roles", he added, citing its efforts in "getting rid of ISIS" as "very effective".
He says it took 17 months to craft and pass Obamacare while he's been working on his plan for just two months.
That view, however, contrasts with the reality of an Italian defense budget that has not shifted in recent years and looks unlikely to rise this year, one analyst said.
- The U.S.is committed to a strong Europe, though he didn't say directly whether he prefers that the European Union stay intact.
During a speech Tuesday at a tool factory in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Trump said he had asked House Speaker Paul Ryan to deliver a message to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partners while he's in Europe this week.

Trump again stressed that he leveraged the USA and China's trade relationship to pressure Xi into doing something about "the menace of North Korea".
Trump said he saw defeating the Islamic State, be it in Iraq or Libya, as the primary task for the USA, beyond which he would want to focus on issues back home. He said that the coming G7 is particularly important for showing unity of intents because of the arrival on it of new leaders, such as Trump and the next President of France.
The president said Iran is doing "a tremendous disservice" to the agreement that they signed.
"We are living in interesting times and this common vision, I think, will be helpful for us and for the world", he said. Earlier this week, the administration certified to Congress that Iran was complying - at least technically - with the terms of the deal, clearing the way for Iran to continue enjoying sanctions relief in the near term.
President Trump said on Thursday that the USA and Italy will "work together" to achieve a "reciprocal" trading relationship. This week he said he would make "some very big changes" to the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico or "we are going to get rid of NAFTA for once and for all". Yet he pointedly stopped sort of telegraphing whether or not the USA would stay in.
When asked which Congressional victory he wanted to get next week, Trump said, "I want to get both, are you shocked to hear that?"
