Speaking after Tillerson said earlier on Tuesday he hoped Russian Federation would conclude it was wrong to align itself with the Syrian government, Putin said Moscow would tolerate Western criticism of its role in Syria but hoped that attitudes would eventually soften.

On Saturday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the USA missile attack on the Syrian military airfield violated global law.

U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the "horrible" chemical attack earlier this week.

A key test of whether the relationship can be salvaged comes next week when Secretary of State Rex Tillerson becomes the first Trump Cabinet member to visit Russian Federation.

Activists and state media said a separate airstrike by the US -led coalition on the northern IS-held village of Hneida killed at least 14 civilians, including children.

Eighty-six people including at least 27 children died in Khan Sheikhun in an attack the United States has blamed on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

With the help of a translator, the couple expressed their pain as they watched the Assad regime carry out unthinkable attacks on civilians in their home country. Reluctant to put significant troops on the ground in Syria, the US for years has struggled to prevent Assad from strengthening his hold on power.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has cancelled a planned trip to Moscow following United States missile strikes in Syria.

Star Wars Battlefront II trailer reveals Kylo Ren, Rey, and Darth Maul
Star Wars director Rian Johnson has warned that The Last Jedi won't be a happy watch, insisting "things are going to get dire". Further hero customisation is also promised, along with more weapons with enhanced modifications for common units.

No matter how extensive the damage at Shayrat, Assad has other options, Hamade said.

"Although the strike will further weaken the overall air defense and ground attack capabilities of the (Syrian air force), it will not significantly diminish the ability of the Assad regime to conduct further chemical weapons attacks", wrote analyst Reed Foster of the defense and intelligence publication Jane's.

The U.S. envoy said "regime change is something that we think is going to happen" in Syria, but she stopped short of suggesting Washington would directly seek that outcome.

The move was welcomed by the Syrian opposition and its main backers, including Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but harshly condemned by Russian Federation and Iran, who back Assad and said striking his forces would complicate the struggle against extremist groups.

The United States did not warn Russian Federation prior to launching its missile strike on the base of the Syrian Air Force, and instead informed Moscow only through military channels, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said. Mevlut Cavusoglu said Saturday that the US intervention was only "cosmetic" unless it removes Assad from power. They hold Iran and its allies responsible for the displacement of millions outside the country.

Moscow suspended communication with United States forces created to stop planes colliding over Syria.

While threatening further strikes, the US envoy also said it was time to press on with a political solution to the six-year war. The Observatory said 15 people, including four children, were killed in the airstrike.

The decision undercut another campaign promise for Trump: his pledge to try to warm relations with Moscow. Earlier, U.S. military officials had said they were looking into whether Russian Federation participated, possibly by using a drone to help eliminate evidence afterward.
