He criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's administration for "creating a war situation" on the Korean Peninsula by dispatching strategic military assets to the region.
North Korea warned the United States to end its "military hysteria" on Saturday or face retaliation as a US aircraft carrier group steamed towards the region amid fears the North may conduct a sixth nuclear weapons test.
Earlier, as the USS aircraft carrier Carl Vinson and its strike group sailed towards the peninsula, North Korea's official KCNA news agency, citing a spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, warned of a "merciless" retaliation against any United States provocation.
North Korea paraded its military might Saturday in a massive public display that experts said showed new capabilities for its long-range intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

"It will be the largest of miscalculations if the United States treats us like Iraq and Libya, which are living out miserable fates as victims of aggression, and Syria, which didn't respond immediately even after it was attacked", said a Friday statement by the general staff of the North Korean army, according to the official Korean Central News Agency.

Part of his mission will be to reassure allies in South Korea and Japan that the USA will defend them against North Korean aggression without acting in a way that might tip the region into open conflict. However, the vice minister of foreign affairs told Tracy that North Korea will eventually go through with that test at a time of their choosing.
Celebrations in North Korea traditionally include singing and dancing, fireworks, an global marathon, a military parade and a display of military strength and weapon capabilities.
On display for the first time were what appeared to be submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), which could be developed to house nuclear warheads capable of reaching targets around the world.
