The extension deadline to file will be October 15 of this year.
A little-known holiday - Emancipation Day - is pushing the 2017 filing deadline for 2016 taxes to April 18. The Internal Revenue Service said there are a few reasons for the extra days added in 2017. The actual day of the holiday is April 16 but it is recognized on a Friday if that day falls on a Saturday and Monday if it falls on a Sunday.
However, the United States Post Office and Goin' Postal are open their regular business hours for those who haven't filed and don't want to wait until the last opportunity. "At the very least, they need to file an extension to kind of hold off certain penalties that could apply if they just did nothing".
Xbox One and Windows 10 Now Offering Self-Service Refunds
Microsoft is testing a new self-refund system for Xbox One and Windows 10 games according to users of the Xbox Insider service. At present, this refund system would only apply to games purchased through the Xbox Marketplace or Windows 10 Store.
Emancipation Day celebrates the signing of the legislation that freed over three thousand slaves in 1862 by President Abraham Lincoln.
So, as a result, taxes are not due until Tuesday, April 18th.
The IRS toll-free telephone lines will be available April 15 from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m.
