Deadline for filing tax returns is Tuesday this year

This year April 15 falls on a weekend and when that occurs, the IRS extends the filing deadline to the following Monday, unless that happens to be a holiday.

The combination of April 15 falling on a Saturday and Monday's Emancipation Day holiday in the District of Columbia is putting off the tax deadline a few extra days.

The April 18, 2017 tax filing deadline is rapidly approaching and it is important that you submit something to the taxing authorities by that date.

"The IRS urges taxpayers to avoid waiting until April 18 to file their taxes", the IRS said in a statement.

When should I file a tax extension?
