PM Narendra Modi pays tribute to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today visited Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, where he paid floral tributes to Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

The Prime Minister said that the BHIM App is positively impacting several lives across the nation.

"In trying to understand how to make the promise of this nation further accessible to all, it is therefore imperative that we continuously study why and how marginalised groups are discriminated against or excluded", Raju said.

"This DigiDhan movement is a safai abhiyaan (cleanliness movement)".

These projects include the launch of BHIM Aadhaar platform for merchants, cash back and referral bonus schemes for BHIM and declaring about 75 townships going less-cash.

Commemorating the occasion, PM Narendra Modi launched Bhim-Aadhaar biometric interface to push digital payments - an initiative named after Ambedkar.

Any Indian without access to smartphones, internet, debit or credit cards will be able to transact digitally through this platform, realising Ambedkar's vision of social and financial empowerment for all.

At the Mankapur Indoor Sports Complex, he unveiled digital plaques to mark the laying of foundation stones for IIIT, IIM and AIIMS at Nagpur. Meanwhile, dwelling on the importance India attaches to renewable energy, Modi said, "One of the sectors towards which we are devoting significant effort is the renewable energy sector, which is vital in the 21st century".

The two incentive schemes - Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana - ended after a rigorous 100-day campaign by NITI Aayog with Rs 258 crores won as prizes by 1.60 million winners. " The Indian Constitution is a living affirmation of the inclusive cohesiveness and guarantee for equality that Baba Saheb envisaged, " she said, adding that the path of social democracy shown by Babasaheb shall forever remain relevant.
