The Islamic State group shot down an Iraqi helicopter that was supporting federal police forces in Mosul, killing two crew members, the military said today.

The United Nations has said more than 300 civilians have been killed in the fighting during the west Mosul offensive, which began in February.

The incident happened during the operation to retake the city from IS militants, the ministry of defence said.

On Tuesday, the Islamic State's spokesman Abi al-Hassan al-Muhajer released the group's first official statement about the usa president, Reuters reports.

Iraq's military on Wednesday urged residents to shelter in their homes in jihadist-held areas of Mosul, where its bid to oust the Islamic State group has taken a heavy toll on civilians.

The Islamic State has derided US President Donald Trump as a "stupid idiot" and said his rise to power was a sign of America's bankruptcy.
