Mufti was addressing a rally in Udhampur after Modi inaugurated the state-of-the-art Chenani-Nashri tunnel, the longest in the country at almost 11 km. "The Kashmiri youth have a choice to select one of the two paths- one of tourism the other of terrorism". Very few tunnels in the world have this kind of fully integrated tunnel control.

India's Border Road Organization had also submitted a proposal to extend this tunnel upto Gurez, which will double the length of tunell from 9 kilometers to 18 kilometers.

Measures have been taken to safeguard the Himayalas and the environment, the prime minister assured. There is also a parallel escape tunnel, with cross passages connecting to the main tunnel at intervals of 300 m. During 2016-17, Rs 1,019 crore was sanctioned for 72 projects in Jammu & Kashmir.
