The Golden State Warriors are hoping to see big things from Briante Weber.

Weber said he had interest from Charlotte and Miami - "Charlotte has three point guards, Miami of course has 17 guards, period", Weber said Saturday - and added that Golden State's decision to waive Anderson Varejao to clear a roster spot for him also played a factor in his decision to sign with the Western Conference leaders.

Earlier this week, Erik Spoelstra said Briante Weber's time in the National Basketball Association "will come". Weber was a college standout at Virginia Commonwealth. This is who I play with on the game.' So it's kind of different.

"So I figured I should pick something new, and actually a team with a spot, and they actually let somebody go to fit me in", Weber said at the Warriors' Saturday shootaround in Sacramento. But we push our guys that if it's not with us, we're making calls to try to help them get somewhere else.

Weber is a 6-foot-2 guard known most for his defensive quickness, hands and tenacity.

A zero-star recruit coming out of Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Va., Weber developed into a three-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year for VCU. Last month he had a nine-steal game.

"As much as we're going to miss Andy and his influence on the team and his professionalism, that had to take precedence", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.

Although he was having a very productive season with Sioux Falls, Weber doesn't have a lot of National Basketball Association experience as he has only played in seven career games with the Memphis Grizzles and Miami. "The D-League is very different from the National Basketball Association, but he has a lot of ability and we'll see how it works out". His relentless defense reminded scouts of Houston's Patrick Beverley.

Weber chose the Warriors over the Heat and Hornets because of the potential to crack the rotation.

Weber provides a potentially nice backup option if Curry should need or want to sit out for a game, or even for a half.

"For a kid like me, it's like, 'Wow, that's my (NBA) 2K team, '" Weber said. "Ooooh!" Stephen Curry said, watching Weber's highlight reel on his iPhone.
